PIA AIRLINE STYLES

This livery was unveiled with the induction of 747-300s in 1999. In this livery all-white fuselage was combined with enlarged green Pakistan titles and light green PIA initials in stylized Urdu script on forward fuselage. White PIA initials highlighted an all green tailfin which had a white leading edge. This livery design was applied on a very limited number of PIA aircraft. Only few months later this livery design was dis-continued and most of the aircraft painted in this livery were re-painted in 1990s livery. Boeing 747-300s continued sporting this livery design.

This livery was introduced on some of the aircraft with traditional Pakistani floral patterns, known as 'Pashmina' and 'Kashikari', painted in light green color over a dark green background of tail fin with white PIA initials, however, this floral patterns fin livery was replaced by the standard PIA fin livery a few months later. Some 747-300s were also seen with small Pakistan titles when this livery was first introduced in 1999

Old Liveries 1990s

In 1991, designed by Negus and Negus of London, PIA unveiled its sporty 90s look. Upper fuselage was in white color with titles, Pakistan International, reduced to just one word: Pakistan in green color. PIA initials in stylized Urdu were retained and were painted in grass green color on the upper fuselage of 747s and on the lower fuselage of other aircraft of the fleet. Fin livery comprised the white PIA initials on an all green fin with white color leading edge. On the lower fuselage, a broad green band covered the belly of aircraft and was cut off forward by three angled chevrons of dark green, grass green and pale blue color. The dark green chevron represented the famous PIA green and Pakistan's beauty and fertility. Sporty grass green and pale blue chevrons, a symbol of sport, highlighted PIA's sponsorship of games of every kind. No other airline in the world has supported the cause of sport and sportsmen worldwide, the way PIA has.

In 1997, to celebrate Pakistan's fifty years of independence, PIA named its aircraft after various Pakistani cities and landmarks. The names along with a specially designed logo were applied below aircraft's flight deck windows.

In Flight Entertainment

The In Fight Entertainment (IFE) system is one of the most crucial systems as far as the brand equity of an airline is concerned, since it directly impacts a passengers' comfort during long haul flights. The maintenance of these systems is becoming extremely critical as airlines strive to up the ante in order to maintain a competitive edge in the passenger transport business.

Video On Demand, Internet Access, Satellite Telephony, Interactive Games and In Flight Telephony are the value-added services that airlines are adding to their regular offering of Music and Movies on passenger seats. However this has resulted in IFE systems becoming complex and more expensive to maintain.

History of PIA Training Centre

Welcome to the PIA Training Centre, Karachi-an institution of comprehensive instruction dedicated towards imparting quality training in all the major areas associated with civil air transport. The centre is housed in a three-storied spacious building, essentially self-contained in facilities and centrally air-conditioned. It is situated about 300 yards from the Corporate Head Office building of PIA.

The prestige and esteem that the Training Centre enjoys has been a result of tireless efforts expended, since the very inception of PIA in 1956, in making the programmes of study worthy of its name. Training has been offered for PIA employees as well as for other airlines' staff intending to work, or already working as members of the cockpit and flight service crew, as passenger service and marketing staff, and as mechanics and engineers, etc. It was in 1960 that all training was amalgamated under one roof at the Hotel Midway House, Karachi. The Centre was moved to its present premises in October 1975.

Specialist instructors are assigned at the Centre for imparting rigorous training to those who fly, and to those who service and maintain various types of aircraft (B-747-200, A-310, A-300, B-737, F-27, Twin Otter, B-777). The training aids and equipment used are the latest. The methods of knowledge and skill transfer, adopted at the PIA Training Centre, are varied all pragmatic and useful. Classroom lectures are augmented by group discussion, observations, experiments, simulations, case studies, etc. Study tours to a number of PIA facilities are regularly conducted and seminars on topics of general interest are frequently convened.

Training facilities available within the airline also include flight simulators which are used in the Transition and recurrent Training of pilots and other operational crew. The equipment here includes: a cabin service procedures trainer, A310 Flight Simulator, 747-200 Flight Simulator and B743 FFS with RB211 Engines also A-310 Video & Audio Computer Based Instructions ( VACBI ) Systems. These are largely supplemented with apprentice workshops and laboratories for new entrants.

During the past, for many years the PIA Training Centre has also been instrumental in rendering training to a large number of pilots, engineers, flight stewards/stewardesses, traffic and sales personnel from over 30 airlines and associated agencies worldwide, mostly from Asian and African countries.
